'We're really excited to bring you Q&A Session 4: Groundswell Roasters! I first got hold of a bag of their espresso roast in October of 2016... It’s no surprise that I consider them to be one of the most interesting local roasters to enter the Vancouver coffee scene last year.
We decided to catch up with them for a Q&A to talk Colombia, home roasting and crepes!'

'... now roasting their own ethically sourced organic coffee and employing marginalized youth with limited access to resources or youth who need a safe place to be and a community connection.
In addition to receiving exposure to the management side, the youth are also trained to roast and package the coffee and to become baristas. Proceeds from the business help fund the social venture program and provide scholarships for people who have difficulty paying their tuition. Although Groundswell just started roasting coffee a few months ago, they have already won the 2016 Golden Bean Silver award for Organic Espresso.'
Roasting Hobby turns into a Worthy Social Cause - Compak Golden Bean, North America
"Launching this month, Groundswell Roasters is a Vancouver based social enterprise funding students of their not-for-profit school, Groundswell, through the sale of specialty coffee.
Housed in the Groundswell school headquarters, a community café, the roastery will operate using a 3kg Joper, offering a range of organic and ethically sourced beans. A former student of Groundswell’s social enterprise program, Melbourne born Attie O’Rourke founded Groundswell Roasters to put her hobby roasting to better use.
About: The Compak Golden Bean is the world’s largest coffee roasters competition and conference. In 2016 the Compak Golden Bean will be held at Castaway Portland, Oregon from 14th – 17th September.
